GET INVOLVED

Schools that participate in SunSmart will receive high-level health and science instruction in alignment with grade-level content standards. All financial obligations and materials are covered by SunSmart. We encourage interested schools in Los Angeles County to contact us to learn more about the program.

What will my students be doing?

Students will receive a sun safety curriculum led by a professional health educator comprising hands-on, fun activities to motivate them to practice sun safe behaviors. Lessons take place in the classroom for one hour a week for four consecutive weeks.

Why should my school become involved?

It is very important for children to learn about sun safety at a young age in order to reduce the risk of skin cancer later in life. Students will not only have fun during the sessions, they will increase their subject knowledge of health and science topics through hands-on, project-based activities. In addition, partner schools will receive an incentive in the form of school supplies.

How can my school become involved?

Schools can contact the Myles Cockburn, Ph.D., at (323) 865-0322 or via e-mail at myles@med.usc.edu to receive more information regarding SunSmart and how to participate.
